Student Leadership Notice Board

The Daubeney Academy Leadership team comprises different committees and leadership opportunities throughout each year group.  These are:

  • School Council
  • Learning Leaders
  • School Ambassadors
  • Prefects
  • House Captains
  • House Leaders
  • Sports Leaders
  • Librarians
  • Transition Buddies
  • Reading Champions

Each of these roles have a different purpose and focus, that centres around the culture and ethos of the school. In all leadership roles, students work to represent the student body and ensure that the student voice is heard and acknowledged throughout the school. The student leadership drives the ethos of the student school community and creates a culture whereby they provide opportunities to support their fellow students in a number of different ways.

School Council:

The School Council is composed of students across all Year groups who apply for the position with a desire to represent their student population. The school council work on a number of different projects throughout the year these include fundraising for charities, organising events and attending conferences on behalf of the students at Daubeney Academy. The purpose of the School Council is to ensure that students’ views can be represented and that staff and students can work in partnership to effect the continual improvement of the school. The school council also works to improve the community feel of the school through the different events that are organised.

Learning Leaders:

The Learning Leaders are Year 11 students. This is a voluntary position but one of extreme prestige and recognition throughout the school. The Learning Leaders are recognised by wearing blue ties. The Learning Leaders are an aspirational leadership role who lead by example and represent and embody the First Class Values of Daubeney Academy. The duties of this post are as follows:

- Assembly monitor

- Attend school events such as open evening and options evening

- Represent DA at events such as Remembrance service

- Plan and deliver assembly to other year groups throughout the school

- Be an excellent role model for other students within the house and uphold the values of the school

School Ambassadors:

The School Ambassadors are Year 10 students. They are recognised by wearing red ties.  School Ambassadors are hardworking and fulfil a number of duties within the school and the wider community.  They represent the student body and the school as a whole. The duties of this post are as follows:

- Attend and assist with all Year group parents evenings

- Plan sessions and represent DA at planned community events

- Help with events within school as required

- Be an excellent role model for other students within the house and uphold the values of the school

Prefects:

The Prefects are Year 9 students this is a voluntary position that students apply for inorder to take on more responsibility within the school and to be the first face that members of the public see when they arrive at Daubeney Academy.  Students who apply for this position have dedicated slots of time whereby they are on Prefect duty and working to fulfil the requirements of the role .  The duties of this post are as follows:

- Reception duty

- School tours

- Help out with Springfield parents evenings

- Reading with Year 6 groups at Springfield Primary to support for SATS preparation

- Arithmetic with Year 6 groups ate Springfield Primary to support for SATS preparation

 - Be an excellent role model for other students within the house and uphold the values of the school

House Captains and House Leaders:

House Captains are Year 11 students and are elected to represent and lead each of the 4 houses in the school. The House Captains work with the House leaders from within the lower year groups.  There is one house leader from each form group within the year.  Students apply for these positions and are selected based upon the strength of their application and their ability to meet the demands of the role. The duties of this post are as follows:

- Run House events and competitions throughout the Year

- Organise teams when there is a house competition

- Encourage and motivate the members of the house

- Work with the HOY to ensure the house is represented at all competitions throughout the school

- House Captains and Leaders to work together within their house to ensure the house is successful

- Be an excellent role model for other students within the house and uphold the values of the school

Sports Leaders

The sports Leaders are students from Year 8.  This an opportunity for any student to start to develop their leadership skills through sport.  The Year 8 students apply for a sports leader role and should show an interest in improving their communication and organisational skills. The sports leaders represent Daubeney Academy at different sports events and help with fixtures within the community.The duties of this role are:

  • Help to organise local primary school sport events such as cross country, athletics, multi sports tournaments
  • Officiate and umpire at different sports events
  • Work with staff to ensure that equipment is organised and ready for events

Librarians

The school librarians are students from any year group that have an interest in reading and the Library.  They assist in the running of the library and help to keep the Library working for the benefit of the students.  The Librarians carry out one duty a week, either at lunch or after school, and they generally help out when they can/want to. They get a little extra say in what gets ordered for the library and sometimes they design competitions.

  • Duties of a Student Librarian include
  • Issuing and returning books
  • Shelving books from the returns trolley
  • Displaying and promoting books
  • General tidying
  • Plan at least one Library program / event.
  • Write book reviews for at least three books.
  • Create at least 1 library display.

Transition Buddies

The Year 7 students are invited to apply for this role once they have settled into school life and feel they embody the First Class Values of the Daubeney Academy community.  Transition buddies help Mr Pugh with the Year 6 into 7 transition events prior to starting at Daubeney Academy and span the summer and autumn term of 2 academic years.  The duties of this role are:

  • Visit local primary schools to deliver presentations and work on Q and A sessions with Year 6 students
  • Assist HOY7 with the different transition events
  • Help out and support with the transition days
  • Be attached to tutor groups to help students move around the school and support with any issues that might arise
  • Welcome new Year 7 students into the school.

Reading Champions

Year 9 and 10 students are invited to apply for this role. Reading Champions should be comfortable with reading out loud to an audience and will develop their skills as a reader as they embrace the role.  One of the main reasons for this leadership role is to promote the importance of reading throughout all year groups, to highlight the pleasure of reading and to celebrate reading throughout the whole school community.

  • Reading to younger year groups during form time
  • Reading to students in primary schools
  • Reading in assemblies
  • Support with reading fair
  • Produce displays
